A 10-year-old boy, Usen Okon, who was thrown into the Imo River in the Ikot Abasi area of Akwa Ibom State, by his aunty over witchcraft accusation, has survived the ordeal.
According to PUNCH, Okon was under the care of his paternal aunt, identified simply as Ekaeyen, at Etebi community in the Esit Eket Local Government Area of the state as his parents had died. A few days ago, Okon was aroused from sleep by Ekaeyen who took him to her husband and asked him to confess to being a wizard. When Okon denied the witchcraft accusation, his aunt threatened to throw
him into a river.
The Senior Project Manager, Mr. Ayobami Ojedokun, of NGO - the Humanist Association for Peace and Social Tolerance Advancement and its partner, Child’s Rights and Rehabilitation Network, who are taking care of the boy told PUNCH:
True to her words, on November 16, Ekaeyen actually took Okon to the Imo River and threw him into the water thinking that the boy would drown. The boy came out of the water alive and went to their home, only to be told that her auntie had relocated.”
The acting Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State Police Command, Mr. Iboro Victor, however said he was not aware of the incident.
“The incident is not to my knowledge right now,” he said.

Blessing told Vanguard, “The first time my mother was not around, he took cane and was beating me and told me that if I messed up, he would kill me, that if I shouted or if my mummy heard anything about it, he was going to kill me.
“So the one that happened on Thursday, November 13, 2014, I told him that I would tell my mummy and I dared to see if he would kill me. So l told my mummy.

Blessing’s mother, Mrs Grace Richard, 30, said her daughter reported to her that the stepfather rap3d her but her husband denied it when she confronted him.
She confirmed that it was during the period she traveled to her home state (Benue) and left her daughter in the care of her stepfather that he first allegedly rap3d her.
“That was two months ago when I travelled to Makurdi and she told me immediately I came back,” the mother said.
“My husband denied and even threatened to beat me black and blue if l ever asked him such a question again.”
Grace said she was not, in the real sense of it, married to the father of Blessing whom she had at the age of 17 before the father died in a motor accident last year.
Blessing’s mother said she and her current husband have been together for four years during which she had a boy child for him. The boy, she said, lives with her mother-in-law.
“We went back to the police station the following day after Richard was detained, only to be told that his father had bailed him.
“On getting back to Richard’s house after he was bailed, he tried to convince his neighbours to accept that Blessing was wayward, but his neighbours refused to play along with him. Rather they claimed they heard Blessing screaming on that Thursday but did know the reason,” she added.
The investigating police officer, IPO, in charge of the case, said that Blessing was indeed pregnant but that investigations were in progress.

75 year old Pa Muse Alabi is currently at the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Oyo State Police Command, for defilement of a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) allegedly committed by the old man, and which has resulted in pregnancy.
Crime Reports learnt that Pa Alabi was doing carpentry work for a lady under whom the victim was an apprentice. The young girl seized the opportunity to tell Pa Alabi to build a safe for her. After giving her the safe, Pa Alabi wooed the girl and she agreed to his proposal. After the first sexual intercourse they had, it was learnt that the suspect gave the girl N200. When she also demanded for a handset, he gave her N1,500 to buy i-tel phone.
Four days after, they made love again. Both times were in September this year.In an interview with Crime Reports, Pa Alabi admitted having sex with the girl and the paternity of the baby. He also agreed to marry her and take care of her and the baby when born. According to the man who lives at his family house at Oje area,
“I am a carpenter and I still work till the present time. I even take roofing jobs. I am very strong.I have two daughters and a son. My first wife gave birth to the female children but had to be taken away by her people when she developed mental illness. My second wife is the mother of the boy who is an SSS3 student but she has left for another man. Currently, I have no wife.”
So how does he satisfy his sexual needs when it looks as if he is very active?
“I don’t go looking for any woman. I usually have sex with any of the married women who like me and come to me for sex. This is not always though.”
Speaking on how he came in contact with his victim, the elderly man said
: “I used to do carpentry work for her boss who sells tailoring materials. That was where I knew her. One day, she asked me to help her build a safe in which she could be keeping her money. When I finished it, I asked her to come to my shop for the safe late one evening and I gave it to her.
“She used to pass by my shop whenever she was going home and used to stop by to greet me. On a particular day, I expressed my interest in her and she promised to think about it.She later consented and on one of the days she stopped to say hello to me, we had sex when I had an urge. And it was mutual. About five days after the first time, we had sex again and she stopped coming.
“One day, she came to me and told me that her grandmother said she was pregnant. She stopped coming again and I didn’t see her again until policemen came to arrest me.”
When asked whether he knew that his action was in contravention of the law, Pa Muse replied that he didn’t know, describing the outcome of his relationship with the young girl as “an act of God”. He said:
“Mistake has no master. I pray that God should forgive me.”
The suspect said he doesn’t use any sex performance enhancement drug before making love to a female
“I don’t take any herbal drink for enhancement of sexual performance. They are alcoholic and I don’t take alcohol as a good Muslim. I observe my five-times-daily prayers faithfully.”
Pa Alabi said he was ready to take responsibility over the pregnant girl and the baby she is expecting.
“I can take care of her adequately. I have a nephew who is a medical doctor and he has promised to help too,” he stated.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor however said that the suspect would be charged to court.

TB Joshua failed to show up in court for the second time in a row, after being summoned by the coroner, to testify regarding the synagogue building collapse which killed 116.

The coroner Oyetade Komolafe, has threatened to order his arrest after failing to show up on November 5th and 19th.

The coroner has unconsciously exceeded his jurisdiction in that he has started inquiring into matters that are not causative of deaths.The Prophet has respect for the law of the land and will not do anything that will hurt the law, If at the end of the day, it is appropriate for The Prophet to appear he will be in court. We do not intend to abuse the legal process. Besides, The Prophet has a milk of human kindness. He is still grieving over the horrendous loss of lives. Coming to court is not proper. Flood kills 10-year-old boy, two others in Lagos
When Stephen Ola-Atunbi, a primary four pupil, was strolling out with a neighbour last Saturday, little did he know he was on a journey of no return.
Ten-year-old Stephen was said to have accompanied one Nafisat Badmus to withdraw money at a bank in Ijaiye– a few kilometres from their residence on Hassan Ogunmole Street in the Abule Tailor area of Lagos.
PUNCH Metro learnt that it was raining when they were returning from the bank and they decided to wait for the rain to stop at a shop on James Akanbi Street.
Our correspondent gathered that the drains that connect a canal which links the street to Aboru and Ipaja Ayobo– neighbouring communities– were submerged by flood.
As Badmus and Stephen later continued their journey home, it was learnt the latter accidentally fell into one of the drains. However, efforts to rescue him by some men in the area proved abortive.
One of the rescuers, a mechanic, who identified himself simply as Wasiu, said, “We tried to get the boy, but it was futile. It was a colleague called Two Naira that first jumped into the drain to rescue the boy. At a point he held on to him, but the volume of the water was so much that the boy slipped from his hand.
“Two Naira sustained injuries in the head in the process. He had gone to the hospital again for treatment. I was also injured in the back. I just resumed work today (Wednesday).”
A vulcanizer, who did not want his name in print, told PUNCH Metro that two other men were killed by flood on the fateful day.
“Apart from that boy, two dead bodies were found along Aboru,” he said.
The atmosphere was solemn when our correspondent visited Stephen’s parents on Wednesday. Relatives, friends and neigbours were seen consoling the family.
The mother, Mrs. Rachael Ola-Atunbi, described the deceased as an ideal child that any parents would pray to have.
“As young as he was, I can’t finish explaining his role in the family. Whenever I was depressed, he consoled me. He would assure me that God would certainly bless us. He was brilliant and religious,” she said.
Stephen’s father, Moses, said he was in the office when he got the distress call, adding that his son had left a vacuum that would be difficult to fill.
He said, “I am pained, but I take solace in the fact that from God we cometh and onto Him we shall return. On Sunday we searched the canal, but could not find him.”
A landlord in the area, Mr. Adebayo Raheem, said flood had been ravaging the community on yearly basis. He added that Stephen’s death was one of many cases.
The Chairman of the community development association, Evangelist Jossy Ayodele, said several letters had been written to the Lagos State Government to no avail.
The Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed the incident.

The deceased brother, Tunde, according to a police source, took him to the church located at Imola area of Owo to seek spiritual solution to his problem.
According to Vanguard,It was learned that the deceased, who had been in church for some time, reportedly escaped at about 5:30a.m. on the ill-fated day.He was said to have hung himself on a tree within the church premises.
His lifeless body was discovered by the pastor of the church, who informed Police in Owo.
A team of homicide detectives was dispatched to the scene, where the deceased’s body was removed and deposited at Owo General Hospital morgue.

7th Sierra Leone Doctor Dies Of Ebola
He said on Wednesday in Freetown that Dr Michael Kargbo died on Tuesday afternoon.
He said it was not clear how Kargbo, a 64-year-old dermatologist working at the Magburaka Government Hospital, was infected with Ebola as he was not serving in a frontline Ebola treatment unit.
He noted that more than 128 of Sierra Leonean health personnel infected by Ebola as staff working in general wards and special treatment centres have been exposed to the disease.
He said all seven Sierra Leonean doctors who have contracted Ebola have died.
The worst Ebola outbreak on record has killed over 5,000 people, mainly in Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone.
However, UN officials said the disease was advancing rapidly in Sierra Leone, where there is a lack of treatment centers.

Thousands of people are flocking to the hospital in Baruipur, a city in India's eastern West Bengal State, to catch a glimpse of the baby.

Chukka Rao, 67, from a neighbouring village, said: "When we first heard about God Boy we were slightly sceptical.
"But we came to see because we were intrigued by all the news we were hearing from friends and others.
"This is truly the son of the Hindu God Brahma, who also has four arms and four legs."
However, a police spokesman said that the visitors were causing problems.
He said: "The crowds are going berserk and clamouring to see the child.
"Hundreds are crying in the streets, hundreds of others are praying and setting up camp here.
"Some are even panicking and believe this is a sign of the end of the world. I have never seen anything like this in my whole career."
Medics say that the infant's condition is a result of the arms and legs of a twin joining on to the foetus in the womb.

A Nigerian student, Samuel Ubezonu, was prohibited from attending his school, Mount Zion Christian Academy, North Carolina over Ebola fears.
Ubezonu, 16, was asked by the school authorities not to come to school because his dad had returned from Nigeria on the 27th of October.
The school sent his parents a note that read:
“We value your family and all of our families and consider it our foremost responsibility to maintain a facility that is both physically and environmentally safe for all.”
The decision forced the Ubezonus to go to court, where a judge ruled that Samuel be readmitted immediately.

Tambuwal dumps presidential aspiration, settles for Sokoto governorship
There are reports that the Speaker of the House of Reps, Aminu Tambuwal, has dumped his presidential aspiration and might be settling for the Sokoto state governorship ticket under the APC.
According to media reports, some chieftains of the APC loyal to General Buhari who is also gunning for the presidential ticket under APC, prevailed on Tambuwal to step down for the former head of state. The Speaker has yet to respond to this new report.

This Is So Bad! Police Man Shoots Bus Driver Over N50 Bribe (Photo)
Policeman on highway patrol duty between Ibadan and Lagos shot a motorist in the early hours of Tuesday, November 11, over a N50 bribe.
Umaru Bayi was driving a commercial bus which departed from Jos in Plateau State Monday night, with a full set of passengers bound for Lagos. As they approached Lagos from Ibadan around 1 p.m. during their journey they were stopped by a policeman in a patrol van on the highway. The van was later identified by its plate number, C NPF 6843.
After stopping the bus, the unidentified policeman reportedly demanded a N50 bribe from the driver, but the driver said he only had N1,000 notes.
The driver had also asked his passengers to assist him with a N50 note to pay the bribe demanded, but none of the passengers had it.
Following the vain search, the driver had offered his N1,000 note to the policeman and asked for "change". But the policeman reacted with anger, asking "should I be looking for change for you?"
Witnesses said the argument was very brief and the policeman ordered the driver down from the bus. He then allegedly shot the driver in the pelvic area and fled.
Umaru is currently being operated upon at a hospital. His relatives report that he is in critical condition.
