Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal are not afraid to spend heavily in the transfer market and said he is determined to lay a solid set of foundations for his successor.
The Gunners have been criticised in recent years for a perceived reluctance to match rival teams' ambitions financially and the sole first-team signing of goalkeeper Petr Cech in the summer window did little to assuage those concerns.
Wenger, however, has stressed an importance on quality not quantity and with Arsenal second in the Premier League table, believes that the club are in a good position to push on.

He told reporters at his press conference on Thursday: 'We are not scared to spend money. I know I have that reputation, but success is talent and cohesion.'
He added: 'We are back in contention for the championship this year and we will fight (for the title), our numbers show it.
'We have taken more points since January than anyone. The trend is right and shows consistency.'

Wenger has been in charge of Arsenal since 1996 and has delivered three Premier League titles, including one unbeaten, as well as six FA Cups in that time.
Despite the glittering haul of trophies, supporters' opinion of Wenger is divided with some believing that the 65-year-old has reached the limits of his capabilities.
Still, entering the twilight of his reign, Wenger remains bullish and said: 'We want more than to finish third and win the FA Cup. We have potential to do more.
'I'm more motivated and committed than ever. I know how sad people are when we lose a game I'm committed to big success to the last day.
'I want to leave the club in a top shape for the guy that comes after me.'

To that end, meanwhile, the Arsenal board have confirmed that the club's training ground at Colney and academy at Hale End are set to receive a multi-million pound makeover.
Colney will be granted a new 40,00-square-foot player centre, equipped with the latest sleeping rooms, altitude chambers and performance analysis tools.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis has echoed Wenger's sentiments and told fans that there is a clear strategy behind everything that is being done.
Gazidis said: 'We won't be successful in a never-ending arms race by outspending our opponents.
'We won't spend money or waste it just to appease commentators.'
He highlighted: '(Mesut) Ozil, (Alexis) Sanchez and Cech show how the board will release funds for signings at any point.
'We want to build them not simply buy them.'
